          HEROES is an event created to honor local people who have shown courage, selflessness and compassion in exceptional situations. Now in its seventh year, the event is our opportunity to publicly thank those who have helped others.

         The American Red Cross of San Joaquin County accepts nominations from the community and honors those who embody the characteristics displayed by heroes. Our heroes are: someone who went beyond the scope of their job,someone who helped in an unusual circumstance, someone who put the needs of another above their own, someone who responded in an instant.

         Gratitude and inspiration are the main themes of HEROES BREAKFAST as our heroes are recognized. They are humbled by the attention, and protest that they don't deserve to be called a hero -- but their actions, no matter how small, have meant a great deal to someone else.
